Gutter cost in Southfield
Every number here is a published range with its source, not a quote. Three are Metro Detroit contractors’ own posted 2026 figures, two are national vendors who state their method, and the fees are the city’s own.

The one Southfield cost page online disagrees with itself six times over.
It prints a typical range of $103 to $910 in its header and $571 to $5,272 in its body, on the same screen, under two different dates. see it for yourself
Price your own job instead: measure the runs in feet, then ask for dollars per foot in writing.
Five scopes, and the arithmetic
What you are actually buying, and how the range turns into a number.

Seamless aluminum replacement
Five-inch K-style formed on site, hung on the existing fascia. Three Metro Detroit contractors post $6 to $12 a foot installed (Warren · Mount Clemens · Wyandotte).
A 160-foot house at $8 a foot is $1,280; at $12 it is $1,920. The same contractors put a complete replacement at $900 to $2,400, and a ranch at $900 to $1,400 against a colonial at $1,600 to $2,600 — which is a statement about how many feet are up there, not about materials. Going from five-inch to six adds $3 to $5 a foot (national vendor, customer survey).

Gutter guards
The widest disagreement on this page, and it is between two contractors in the same metro: $1 to $3 a foot (Warren) against $8 to $15 a foot as an upcharge on new gutters (Mount Clemens). Five times, same work.
On 160 feet that is $160 to $480, or $1,280 to $2,400. Ask which product and which number before anyone quotes a figure for the whole house.

Repair, reseal and re-hang
Priced per item, not per foot: reseal a leaking joint or seam $75 to $150 a section, re-hang a sagging run $100 to $200, replace a damaged section $150 to $400, reattach a downspout $75 to $200 (one Warren contractor’s itemized list · national vendor, reported by members).
Two or three of those items on one house still come in under the bottom of the replacement range.

Downspouts and where the water lands
An extension above ground is $5 to $20; a new downspout $30 to $75 each, or $220 to $625 for the four or five a house usually needs (national vendor, reported by members). Burying one runs $150 to $400 per downspout (Mount Clemens).
If it is buried, ask whether the job needs a plumbing permit. The city’s schedule has fee lines for roof drainage, printed below.

Fall gutter and leaf cleanup
Gutters cleared, downspouts run through, leaves bagged or hauled. Ask for each as its own line: Southfield takes yard waste only in paper bags or a marked container, never plastic (the city's page).
What to ask a fall cleanup crew for, and the published Metro Detroit figures
The first four scopes are drawn from the same three Metro Detroit contractors and two national vendors. None of them is a Southfield figure.

What moves the price
- How many feet, and how high. A ranch and a colonial with the same footprint are $900 to $1,400 against $1,600 to $2,600 for the same product (Mount Clemens).
- What is behind the gutter. The Census puts the median Southfield home at 1969 (Census) — old enough that the fascia board may be soft where the hangers go. Ask the contractor to look at the wood while the old run is down, and to price that separately.
- Five inch or six. Six-inch adds $3 to $5 a foot (national vendor).
- Whether the water gets carried away. An extension is $5 to $20; burying it is $150 to $400 a downspout (national vendor · Mount Clemens).
City fees
From the city’s own schedule, as published in 2016. These are fees, not prices, and no city page says whether a gutter job needs a building permit at all.

Every line from the city’s fee ordinance, enacted May 2016 (PDF) and its building permit requirements sheet (PDF). They apply if a building or plumbing permit is required, and that is exactly the question no city page answers for gutter work — the building department takes it at 248-796-4100, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (building department). The plumbing lines are printed as they appear: the schedule defines none of its terms, and no city page says whether an ordinary exterior downspout counts as a “roof conductor”, so ask the building department whether that line applies to yours. What the city does and does not say.
How the quote works
You reach us; your details go to one gutter contractor who serves Southfield, and you’ll hear back from them or from us. Ask them to measure, and ask for the quote in writing — feet, dollars per foot, and the downspouts listed separately — before any work starts. You can say no. Asking costs nothing.
